4 Steps To Stay Healthy While Traveling

In the wake of Coronavirus concerns, staying healthy while traveling has become a top priority for many travelers. Whether you’re traveling near or far, here are four essential tips to ensure your well-being not only during travels.
  1. Wash Your Hands: This may seem like common sense, but it’s surprising how often I’ve noticed passengers leaving the lavatory and I highly doubt they washed their hands (sink is dry or if it is broken the sanitizer wipes aren’t used). Keeping your hands clean is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs and illnesses. Remember to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and after using the restroom.

  2. Stay Hydrated: Traveling can be dehydrating, particularly if you’re flying. To keep your immune system in top shape, make sure to drink plenty of water. Carry a reusable water bottle with you (be sure it’s empty when going through TSA) and refill it regularly, especially during long flights. Hydration is key to maintaining your body’s natural defenses and overall well-being.

  3. Avoid Touching Your Face: This may be easier said than done, but avoiding touching your face, especially your eyes, nose, and mouth, can significantly reduce your risk of getting sick. Germs can easily spread from your hands to these sensitive areas, so try to be mindful and refrain from unnecessary touching. If you must touch your face, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly beforehand or use hand sanitizer.

  4. Carry Cleaning Wipes: While it’s impossible to control the cleanliness of every surface you encounter while traveling, carrying disinfectant wipes can provide an added layer of protection. Use them to wipe down tray tables, armrests, door handles, and other frequently touched surfaces in airplanes, trains, buses, and hotel rooms. Many of the things you commonly touch while traveling aren’t cleaned as well as you think. Taking a few minutes to sanitize your immediate surroundings can go a long way in preventing the spread of germs and keeping you healthy on the go.

By following these simple steps, you can minimize your risk of illness and stay as healthy as you can during your travels. Whether you’re going on a grand adventure or a quick weekend getaway, prioritizing your health is essential for enjoying your time away from home.
