Haleiwa, Hawaii: North Shore Adventure

haleiwaMost people stay in Waikiki when the visit the island of Oahu. If you have the time to make your way out to the north shore of the island I would recommend visiting the historic Haleiwa Town. While on that side of the island I recommend you visit Waimea Beach Park, Matsumoto Shave Ice, and Storto’s Sub Shop.

Waimea Beach Park is one of the more well known beaches on the North side of Oahu. During the summer months it is perfect for swimming and laying out on the beach. During the winter months this beach has some of the biggest waves in the world! I wouldn’t recommend venturing into the water with those waves but it does make for a great sight to see.

Matsumoto Shave Ice will most likely be the name you hear if you ask, “Where can I get some shave ice?” The walls of the shop are lined with photos of celebrities who have visited Matsumoto’s on their Hawaiian vacations. You can have just your shave ice or you can pair it with ice cream, azuki beans, or both. I love mine with ice cream.

Storto’s Sub Shop is one of my all time favorite lunch spots when I’m home. I always try to make a trip out to Haleiwa just to get a sub while I’m home in Hawaii. I will usually make a stop at Storto’s on my way to Waimea so I can have a great lunch to go with the great ocean view!

I definitely recommend making the trip up to the north shore if you’re visiting Oahu and have the time!
